Preparing for Nate and Ophelia: how people process hurricane forecasts

Despite huge improvements in the accuracy of hurricane forecasting, there can still be a lot of uncertainty over the future path of a storm. Given this uncertainty, how can policy makers best make decisions on evacuations and emergency management resources? Research published today in Cognitive Research: Principles and Implications examines the utility of different types of visual forecasting displays that are used to aid such decisions.
